Free resume summary generator built from your own results.

Tell it your job title, your experience and a result or two. You'll get short summaries written only from what you typed, then checks for length, buzzwords and “I” before one goes at the top of your resume.

The title you want to be found for.

Put 0 if you're just starting out.

Your industry, or the area you know best.

Separate them with commas, most important first.

One per line. Only use numbers you could explain in an interview.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded. Your answers stay in this tab until you close it.

Four things a good summary does. The checks look for each one.

  1. Opens with your job title

The first words tell a recruiter what kind of candidate you are. Use the title you're applying for, ideally the one the job posting uses.

  2. Gives a result with a number

“Cut month-end close from 8 days to 4” says more than any adjective. Only use a number you could explain in an interview.

  3. Says what you offer

Readers skip phrases like “results-driven team player” and “seeking a challenging role”. Your field, your skills and what you've done are what they're looking for.

  4. Stays short, without “I”

Two or three sentences, within 45 words, and no “I” or “my”. That's two or three lines on the page, short enough to read before moving on to your experience.

Resume summary examples for 20 jobs.

Each one is the summary from a complete example resume, so you can see how it sets up the experience below it. They follow the same pattern: a job title, years of experience, a specialty, then results with numbers.

Say what you offer, not what you want.

An objective tells the reader what you're hoping for. A summary tells them what they'd be getting, which is the decision they're making. Both examples are about the same person.

Objective

Seeking a challenging role where I can use my analytical skills and grow with a dynamic company.

All about what you want. Nothing the reader can check.

Summary from the generator

Data Analyst with five years of experience in fintech and marketplaces. Cut weekly reporting time by 70%. Found pricing changes worth $2.4M a year. Skilled in SQL, dbt, Tableau and A/B testing.

A title, a specialty and results someone could ask about, in 32 words.

Common questions about resume summaries.

What's the difference between a resume summary and an objective?

A summary says what you offer: your experience, your skills and what you've achieved. An objective says what job you want. Most readers prefer a summary because it answers the question they're asking. If you're changing careers, a summary still works: lead with the skills and results that carry over.

How long should a resume summary be?

Two or three sentences, about 30 to 45 words. The generator keeps its drafts within 45 words, the point where the review in our resume Studio starts flagging a summary as too long to read at a glance.

Should a resume summary use “I”?

No. Resume summaries leave out “I”, “me” and “my” and start with your job title instead: “Data analyst with five years…”, not “I am a data analyst with five years…”. It reads faster and saves words.

Do I need a summary on my resume?

It's optional, but it's the first thing a recruiter reads, so a good one helps. It matters most when your job titles don't tell the whole story, like after a career change or a gap. If yours would only repeat your latest job title, leave it out and let your first bullet points do the work.

Does this use AI? Is what I type saved?

No AI, and nothing is uploaded. The drafts are put together in your browser from the words you type, using fixed patterns, so they never claim anything you didn't say. Your answers stay in this tab until you close it.

Summary done? Build the rest of your resume.

Paste your summary into the Studio, then add your experience. It checks the whole resume as you edit and downloads a clean PDF or Word file.
