Why it works

  • One page in all six layouts251 words, so switching designs never pushes it to a second page.
  • 4 of 8 bullets name a resultThe rest show the scale of the work, which a recruiter reads as proof too. Counted by the same Review the Studio runs.
  • Headings an ATS already knowsSummary, Experience, Education, Skills, in that order.
  • Reads back as plain textOne column with no tables or icons. The ATS text tab shows what a parser gets.

SUMMARY

Data scientist with six years building forecasting, churn and pricing models in Python for retail and insurance. Designs the experiments that prove a model works and explains the results in plain language to the people who use them.

EXPERIENCE
Senior Data Scientist
2022 – Present
Larkspur Grocers · Chicago, IL
  • Own the demand forecasting model for 9,000 products in 210 stores; MAPE fell from 31% to 19%, cutting food waste by $2.6M a year.
  • Design the A/B tests for a markdown pricing model; the winning policy lifted margin 3.1% across 60 test stores.
  • Build feature pipelines in Spark on Databricks over 1.4B transactions, tracking every model run in MLflow.
Data Scientist
2019 – 2022
Northgate Mutual Insurance · Chicago, IL
  • Built an XGBoost churn model (AUC 0.84) that let the retention team target 40,000 policyholders, saving $1.2M in renewals.
  • Estimated the effect of a renewal discount program with causal inference, showing a third of its spend bought no extra renewals.
Junior Data Scientist
2018 – 2019
Brightwater Health Analytics · Milwaukee, WI
  • Developed logistic regression models predicting missed appointments for 14 outpatient clinics, reducing no-shows by 11%.
  • Cleaned and joined 6 years of scheduling and patient data in SQL and pandas for the first model.
  • Wrote hypothesis testing guides and SQL templates that the analytics team still uses.
EDUCATION
M.S. Statistics
2016 – 2018
University of Wisconsin–Madison · Madison, WI
SKILLS
Languages: Python, SQL, R, pandas, NumPy
Modelling: machine learning, scikit-learn, XGBoost, time series forecasting, causal inference, feature engineering
Statistics: A/B testing, hypothesis testing, regression, experiment design
Platforms: Databricks, Spark, Snowflake, MLflow, Jupyter, Tableau
Layout

A colour bar across the top and a big, bold name. Still one column. Switching layouts never changes the words.

Data scientist resumes usually list every library the person has imported. A hiring manager wants something else: what you modelled, how you knew it worked, and what the business did with it. The template above is built around those three answers, and the score on this page is the actual output of the Review, not a claim.

Have the real job posting? Paste it into the keyword scanner to see the skills it asks for most, and which ones your resume is missing.

Why each choice was made

  1. Why every model has an evaluation metric

AUC, MAPE or lift tells a technical reviewer the model was measured properly, and the business number beside it tells a non-technical one why it mattered. Each bullet above carries one of each where it can.

  2. Why Kaggle and courses aren't on it

With paid experience, a certificate list competes with your actual models for the same page. Keep one or two that a posting asks for. Early in your career, swap the oldest job for a project that used real, messy data.

  3. Why the degree stays short

Many postings ask for a quantitative degree, so it must be there for the parser. The thesis title and coursework rarely help a screener once you have three years of work; keep the degree, school and dates.

Data scientist resume questions

What skills should I put on a data scientist resume?

The skills the job posting names, spelled the way it spells them. For a data scientist that often includes Python, R, machine learning, statistical modelling, Spark and Databricks. Show each one in a bullet with a result, then list the core ones again in a short skills section.

How do I write a data scientist resume summary?

Keep it to two or three sentences: your years of experience and where, the scale of your work, and one result with a number. Leave out words a recruiter cannot check, like hardworking or passionate. The example summary on this page shows the pattern.

Is this data scientist resume template free?

Yes. Open it in the Studio, replace the example with your own work and download it as a PDF in a free design (Clean, Signal, Editorial and Minimal). Word files and the other designs come with ATSPrep Pro. There is no watermark; downloading needs a free account.

Is this data scientist resume template ATS friendly?

Yes. It is one column of real text with standard section headings, and no tables, text boxes or text inside images, so parsers read it in order. Run your finished file through the free ATS resume checker to see the text it gives back.

Keep the pattern. Tell your story.

  1. Keep the hierarchy. Same section order, plain-text contact details.
  2. Replace every claim. Your scope, your numbers, your tools. Never borrowed achievements.
  3. Run the Review again. Watch the score respond to the evidence in your version.
