Why it works
- One page in all six layouts265 words, so switching designs never pushes it to a second page.
- 3 of 9 bullets name a resultThe rest show the scale of the work, which a recruiter reads as proof too. Counted by the same Review the Studio runs.
- Headings an ATS already knowsSummary, Experience, Education, Certifications, Skills, in that order.
- Credentials have their own sectionFoSTaC Food Safety Supervisor (Advanced Catering), HACCP Level 3, each with issuer and year.
- Reads back as plain textOne column with no tables or icons. The ATS text tab shows what a parser gets.
Chef with seven years in hotel and restaurant kitchens, running the grill and continental stations. HACCP and FoSTaC trained, with menu development and food cost control at chef de partie level.
- Run the grill and continental station for an all-day restaurant, cooking for about 220 covers a day with a team of three commis chefs.
- Cut the station's food cost from 34% to 30% in a year through portion control, FIFO stock rotation and daily prep sheets.
- Developed six dishes for the new seasonal menu, two of which became the restaurant's top sellers.
- Keep temperature logs and allergen labels to HACCP standard; the kitchen passed every FSSAI inspection in the last three years.
- Prepared mise en place and cooked à la carte mains for about 150 covers a night.
- Cooked for banquets of up to 400 guests alongside the main kitchen.
- Ordered dry stores and vegetables each week against par levels, reducing weekly food waste by about 18%.
- Prepared vegetables, sauces and bakery items for breakfast and lunch service.
- Followed cleaning schedules and kitchen sanitation rules, logging fridge temperatures twice a shift.

Chef resumes are judged on the kitchen you held up, not on a love of food. A head chef reading one wants your station or rank, covers a service, the cuisine, food safety training such as HACCP or a local certificate, and how you handled food cost, waste and ordering. This example puts each of those in terms a kitchen understands.

Why most chefs don't get the call
Rank, station and kitchen size
Commis, demi chef de partie, chef de partie or sous chef, the station you ran (grill, sauce, pastry, tandoor, garde manger) and the brigade size tell a head chef where you fit.
Covers and pace
Covers a service or a day, à la carte or banquet, and the number of outlets show whether you can hold a pass on a full Saturday without dropping quality.
Food safety and hygiene
HACCP, a Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene certificate in the UK, FoSTaC in India, a food handler's certificate in Kenya or the Gulf, and clean audits are checked before a trial shift.
Food cost, waste and menus
Food cost percentage, portion control, ordering, stock rotation and dishes you created for the menu show you think about the kitchen's margin as well as the plate.
Skills and keywords for a chef resume
Applicant tracking systems match on literal strings. Spell each term the way the job posting spells it, and group related skills so people and parsers can both follow it.

Why each choice was made
Why covers are the headline number
Covers a service is the number every kitchen understands. It shows the pace you worked at better than any adjective about a busy kitchen.
Why food safety gets its own section
Kitchens are inspected and hiring chefs check certificates early. A Certifications section with HACCP and the local food safety course lets them confirm it at a glance.
Why food cost appears on a chef de partie resume
Sous chef roles ask for cost and waste control. Showing it at chef de partie level makes the next step up easy for a reader to picture.
Chef resume questions
What skills should I put on a chef resume?
The skills the job posting names, spelled the way it spells them. For a chef that often includes chef de partie, sous chef, food preparation, mise en place, HACCP and food safety. Show each one in a bullet with a result, then list the core ones again in a short skills section.
How do I write a chef resume summary?
Keep it to two or three sentences: your years of experience and where, the scale of your work, and one result with a number. Leave out words a recruiter cannot check, like hardworking or passionate. The example summary on this page shows the pattern.
