Why it works
- One page in all six layouts267 words, so switching designs never pushes it to a second page.
- 6 of 7 bullets name a resultThe rest show the scale of the work, which a recruiter reads as proof too. Counted by the same Review the Studio runs.
- Headings an ATS already knowsSummary, Experience, Education, Certifications, Skills, in that order.
- Credentials have their own sectionEngineer in Training (EIT), Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWP), each with issuer and year.
- Reads back as plain textOne column with no tables or icons. The ATS text tab shows what a parser gets.
Mechanical engineer with seven years designing industrial HVAC and pump equipment from concept to production. Designs in SOLIDWORKS with GD&T to ASME Y14.5, validates with FEA in Ansys and is an EIT sitting the PE exam this year.
- Led mechanical design of a rooftop unit fan housing in SOLIDWORKS, releasing 46 GD&T drawings that passed the validation build unchanged.
- Redesigned a welded base frame as bent sheet metal using FEA in Ansys, cutting part cost 18% and weight 11 kg while holding the fatigue margin.
- Ran DFMEA and 8D root cause analysis on a coil bracket cracking in the field; warranty claims for it fell from 31 to 4 a year.
- Designed machined and cast impeller housings for a new 15 hp pump line, from hand calculations to first article inspection.
- Partnered with three suppliers on DFM and PPAP, bringing tooling lead time from 14 weeks to 9.
- Ran heat transfer and CFD checks on a motor cooling jacket, lowering peak winding temperature 12°C.
- Designed 8 assembly fixtures in SOLIDWORKS for an injection molding cell, trimming changeover time by 20 minutes.

Mechanical engineering resumes fail when they read like a course list: thermodynamics, statics, a CAD package. A hiring manager screens for what you designed, the tools and standards you designed it to, and what happened when it went to production. The template above puts the CAD, the analysis and the cost, weight and defect numbers where a parser and an engineering lead both look.

Why most mechanical engineers don't get the call
CAD and drawing standards
SOLIDWORKS, Creo, Inventor, CATIA or NX is usually a hard filter, and so is drawing to GD&T under ASME Y14.5 or ISO. Name the package and say whether you released production drawings.
Analysis behind the design
FEA in Ansys or SOLIDWORKS Simulation, tolerance stack-ups, hand calcs and thermal or fluid analysis show the part was engineered, not just modelled.
Design for manufacture and launch
Sheet metal, machining, castings and injection moulding each change the design. DFM, supplier work, PPAP and pilot builds show you got a part made, not only drawn.
Licence, chartership and the result
EIT or PE, CEng through IMechE, or EBK registration in Kenya can be screened. After that, the reviewer wants cost, weight, defect or lead-time movement on each project.
Skills and keywords for a mechanical engineer resume
Applicant tracking systems match on literal strings. Spell each term the way the job posting spells it, and group related skills so people and parsers can both follow it.

Why each choice was made
Why the CAD package is in the summary
Engineering applicant systems often filter on one CAD tool. Naming SOLIDWORKS and GD&T in the first lines clears that filter before the reader reaches the projects.
Why each project ends in a production number
Designed a bracket is a task. Cut part cost 18% and passed the validation build first time is the outcome a manager needs to compare two candidates.
Why the EIT is listed with its board
Licensure is checked against a state board or institution. Listing the EIT with its issuer and year lets a screener verify it, and shows PE is on the way.
Mechanical engineer resume questions
What skills should I put on a mechanical engineer resume?
The skills the job posting names, spelled the way it spells them. For a mechanical engineer that often includes SOLIDWORKS, GD&T, FEA, Ansys, DFM and sheet metal. Show each one in a bullet with a result, then list the core ones again in a short skills section.
How do I write a mechanical engineer resume summary?
Keep it to two or three sentences: your years of experience and where, the scale of your work, and one result with a number. Leave out words a recruiter cannot check, like hardworking or passionate. The example summary on this page shows the pattern.
Is this mechanical engineer resume template free?
Yes. Open it in the Studio, replace the example with your own work and download it as a PDF in a free design (Clean, Signal, Editorial and Minimal). Word files and the other designs come with ATSPrep Pro. There is no watermark; downloading needs a free account.
Is this mechanical engineer resume template ATS friendly?
Yes. It is one column of real text with standard section headings, and no tables, text boxes or text inside images, so parsers read it in order. Run your finished file through the free ATS resume checker to see the text it gives back.
Keep the pattern. Tell your story.
