ATS-friendly resume templates: common questions.

Already have a resume? Run it through the free ATS resume checker to see the text a parser pulls out, or read how each applicant tracking system reads resumes.

Are these resume templates ATS friendly?

Yes. Every design is one column of real text in reading order, with standard section headings and no tables, text boxes, icons or text inside images. That is the structure applicant tracking systems read most reliably.

Are the templates really free?

Yes. Open any template in the Studio, edit every line and download it as a PDF or Word file. There is no watermark and nothing to pay. Editing needs no account; downloading needs a free Google sign-in.

What is in each sample resume?

A complete, fictional resume for that role: a summary, experience bullets with results, skills and education. Each page also lists the keywords recruiters search for in that role and explains why each choice was made.

Should I download my resume as Word or PDF?

Send whichever file type the job posting asks for. If it does not say, a text-based PDF keeps your layout exactly as you set it, and a DOCX is the safer choice when a portal warns that PDF is not supported.

Can I use these as a CV template?

Yes. Outside the US and Canada, a CV usually just means a resume, and these templates work as one: keep it to one or two pages and rename the headings if you like. An academic CV with publications and grants is a longer document with its own format.

Is there a simple resume template?

Yes. Choose the Minimal design in the Studio. It has wide margins, no rules or colour blocks and a quiet grey accent, so the words carry the page.

Can I use these templates in Google Docs?

Yes. Download the Word (DOCX) file from the Studio, then open it in Google Docs with File, Open, Upload. Google Docs converts it into an editable document. Check the spacing afterwards, because fonts can change in the conversion.

Not sure which one fits? Start blank and pick a layout later.

The Studio has every role example and all five layouts. Write once, switch designs as often as you like, and see the text a parser pulls from your file before you send it.
