## Two weeks notice letter examples. Nine situations, ready to copy.

### 1. Two weeks notice letter for a new job

You've signed an offer elsewhere and want a plain, friendly letter.

```text
Dear Priya,
Please accept this letter as my two weeks' notice. I have accepted a position with another company, and my last day as Dispatch Coordinator at Harbor Point Logistics will be Friday, November 13, 2026.
Thank you for the past three years on the dispatch team. I learned more running the Saturday shift with you than in any course I've taken.
Over the next two weeks I'll finish the carrier rate review, write up the weekend routing notes and walk whoever takes over through my open tickets. Tell me if there's anything else that would help.
I'd like to stay in touch, and I hope our paths cross again.
Best regards,
Marcus Bell
```

### 2. Two weeks notice for a career change

You're leaving the field altogether, so say what you're moving on to.

```text
Dear Tom,
Please accept this letter as my two weeks' notice. My last day as Office Manager at Brightline Dental will be Friday, November 20, 2026.
I've been accepted into an electrical apprenticeship that starts in December. It's a big change of direction for me, and it was a hard choice to leave a practice I like this much.
Before I go, I'll write down how I run payroll, the supply orders and the insurance follow-ups, and I'm glad to train whoever you bring in.
Thank you for trusting me with the front office for four years.
All the best,
Renee Castillo
```

### 3. Two weeks notice for a retail or hourly job

Shift work. Name your last shift, even if it falls on a weekend, and keep it short.

```text
Dear Kevin,
I'm giving my two weeks' notice. My last shift at the Maple Avenue store will be Saturday, November 14, 2026.
I'll work all of my scheduled shifts until then, and I can help train a new cashier if that would be useful.
Thank you for working around my class schedule this past year. I've enjoyed being part of the team.
Thanks,
Jasmine Ortiz
```

### 4. Two weeks notice for a nurse or shift worker

Healthcare and other rota jobs. Check your handbook first: many hospitals ask nurses for more than two weeks.

```text
Dear Angela,
Please accept this letter as my two weeks' notice of resignation from my position as Registered Nurse on 4 West. My last scheduled shift will be the night shift on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
I've accepted a day-shift position closer to home. I'm grateful for everything I learned on this unit, especially from the charge nurses who guided me through my first year.
I'll work all of my scheduled shifts through my last day. If it helps the schedule, I can pick up one extra shift before I go, and I'm glad to orient a new hire on any of my remaining shifts.
Thank you for your support and for building such a strong team.
Sincerely,
Olivia Grant, RN
```

### 5. Two weeks notice for a remote job

Tell your manager on a video call first, then send this the same day so it's in writing.

```text
Hi Sam,
Following up on our call this morning, please take this as my formal two weeks' notice. My last working day at Fernway will be Friday, November 6, 2026.
Before then I'll finish the billing migration tickets I own, record a walkthrough of the reporting scripts and move my working docs into the shared team folder. I'll ship my laptop back with the return label from IT once my access is handed over.
Thank you for two good years. Working with this team across four time zones taught me a lot about writing things down.
Best,
Chris Novak
```

### 6. Two weeks notice when the job has been hard

Keep it to the facts. The letter stays in your file, so the details belong with HR or in an exit interview.

```text
Dear Mr. Harlan,
Please accept this letter as notice of my resignation from my position as Sales Associate. My last day will be Friday, November 13, 2026.
During my remaining two weeks, I will complete my assigned work and hand over my open deals.
Thank you for the opportunity to work at Keystone Auto Group.
Sincerely,
Tyler Brooks
```

### 7. Resignation letter with less than two weeks notice

When you can't give two full weeks. Say so plainly, give one line of reason and offer what you can.

```text
Dear Lauren,
I'm sorry to give you less notice than usual. I need to resign from my position as Barista, and my last day will be Friday, October 23, 2026, one week from today.
A family matter means I have to move back home sooner than I planned. I know this leaves the schedule short, and I'll work every shift I have until then.
Before I go, I'll write up the opening checklist and the supplier order days. Thank you for being such a fair and patient manager.
Kind regards,
Nina Patel
```

### 8. Two weeks notice email to your manager

Where email is how your workplace does things. A clear subject line, with the letter in the body of the email.

```text
Subject: Two weeks' notice: Jordan Kim
Hi Rachel,
As we discussed this morning, I'm resigning from my role as Customer Success Manager. This email is my two weeks' notice, and my last day will be Friday, November 20, 2026.
I'll spend the next two weeks handing over my accounts. By Wednesday I'll send you a list of every customer with its renewal date and anything still open, so we can decide who takes what.
Thank you for your support over the past two years. I've learned a lot on this team.
Best,
Jordan Kim
```

### 9. Two weeks notice with an offer to train your replacement

Your job runs on know-how nobody else has written down, and you want to leave it in good hands.

```text
Dear Michael,
Please accept this letter as my two weeks' notice. My last day as Payroll Specialist at Corwin Manufacturing will be Friday, December 4, 2026.
Payroll is hard to cover at short notice, so I'd like to use these two weeks to make the handover as easy as I can. I'll write a step-by-step guide for each pay run, including the overtime and union deduction steps, and I'm happy to run the next payroll side by side with whoever takes over.
Thank you for the chance to grow in this role over the past five years.
Sincerely,
Grace Liu
```

## Two weeks notice letter template. Fill in the highlighted gaps.

Copy it, then fill each highlighted gap. Leave out the optional line if you'd rather not give a reason.

```text
[Your name]
[Your email or phone]
[Date you hand it in]
Dear [Manager's name],
Please accept this letter as my two weeks' notice of resignation from my position as [job title] at [company name]. My last day will be [weekday, month day, year].
[Optional, one line: I have accepted a new position. / I am moving. / I am going back to school.]
Over the next two weeks, I will [finish or hand over your main piece of work] and help train [your replacement or the team] so the handover goes smoothly.
Thank you for [one specific thing you're grateful for]. I've valued my time at [company name].
Sincerely,
```

## What to put in. And what to leave out.

Put these in:

- The words “resign” or “notice”, so nobody can read it as a request.
- Your job title and the company name.
- Your last working day as a full date, or your last shift.
- The date you hand it in.
- One line on the handover: what you'll finish and who you'll show.
- A short thank-you you actually mean.
- Your name, and a signature if it's on paper.

Leave these out:

- Complaints about your manager, pay or coworkers. The letter goes in your file.
- Where you're going next, or what they're paying you.
- Promises you can't keep, like being on call after you leave.
- Long apologies or explanations. One line of reason is plenty.
- Requests about final pay or unused PTO. Raise those with HR in a separate email.

## How to hand in your notice. Six steps, in order.

1. **Get the new job in writing first:** Wait for a signed offer, and for any background check to clear, before you resign. Notice is hard to take back.
2. **Check what your contract or handbook asks for:** Some ask for more than two weeks, or for notice in writing or on paper. Some only pay out unused PTO if you give the notice they ask for.
3. **Tell your manager first:** In person or on a video call. Keep it short: you're leaving, your last day, and that you'll help with the handover.
4. **Send the letter the same day:** By email or on paper, so there's a dated record. Copy HR if that's how your company does it, and keep a copy for yourself.
5. **Plan the handover:** List your open work, who should take each piece and where the files live. Share it in your first week.
6. **Ask HR about the last details:** Your final paycheck, unused PTO, when benefits end and how to return equipment. The rules on final pay vary by state.

## Questions

### Do I have to give two weeks' notice?

In most US jobs, no law requires it. Employment is usually at will, so either side can end it at any time. Two weeks is the courtesy most employers expect, and a contract, union agreement or company policy can ask for more. Some employers only pay out unused PTO, or mark you eligible for rehire, if you give the notice they ask for. This is general information, not legal advice.

### What if my employer tells me to leave on the spot?

It happens. In an at-will job an employer can accept your notice and end your job the same day, and in most cases it doesn't have to pay you for the two weeks. Know what you're owed before you hand the letter in: your final paycheck, any unused PTO your state or policy pays out, and when benefits end. Whether you can claim unemployment depends on your state; your state's labor department can tell you.

### How do I write a two weeks notice letter?

Say you're resigning and that this is your two weeks' notice, give your job title and your last day as a full date, offer to help with the handover, and thank them in a line. Date it and sign it. That's four or five short paragraphs. The builder above writes it for you and works out the date.

### Is two weeks 10 working days or 14 calendar days?

Usually 14 calendar days from the day you hand it in, so notice given on a Friday ends on the Friday two weeks later. If your contract counts working days, tick “Count working days only” and the builder counts Monday to Friday instead. If your team agrees a different last day, type it into the last working day box and the letter uses that date.

### Can I send my two weeks notice by email?

Yes, for most jobs. Tell your manager in person or on a call first, then email the letter the same day so there's a dated record. Put it in the body of the email with a clear subject like “Two weeks' notice: your name”. The builder gives you that subject line and a button that opens it in your email app.

### I work shifts or weekends. What do I put as my last day?

Your last scheduled shift, with its day and date, even if it falls on a weekend. If you work nights, say which night. Then the schedule can be planned around the date you actually leave. Type your last shift into the last working day box and the letter says it.

### I'm in the UK or another country. Does this still work?

Yes, with your own notice period. In the UK the legal minimum an employee must give is one week once you've worked there a month, but many contracts ask for a month or more, and the contract wins. Choose “Other” and type your notice in days, or set the last working day yourself.

### Is what I type uploaded or saved?

No. The builder runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to ATSPrep or anyone else. Your answers stay in this tab so a reload doesn't lose them, and they're gone when you close it.
